Graduate's Profile (CEM)

The graduate´s profile is based on the methodological and professional complex conception of the studied branch. The combination of teaching methods together with the concentration on specific needs of the target groups enable students to achieve a broad spectrum of knowledge and skills. The scope of such knowledge and skills is specified in the annotations of individual subjects.

Graduate´s Knowledge and Skills

The subject content of knowledge includes general theoretical and methodological resources in macro and microeconomics (emphasizing the international context and alternative paradigms), and quantitative methods that are used in the related specialized theoretical and application subjects in economic analysis and strategy.

Professional specific knowledge aims at detail oriented theoretical and methodological knowledge and contributes to a competence use of them in the evaluation of (qualitative) resources for (long-term) growth performance and competitive advantage, especially innovation performance, human resources quality, information and communication technologies, and institutional quality.

Mastering of professional specific theoretical and methodological knowledge facilitates its application for the analysis of economic performance on alternative levels (international, national, professional, regional, and business) emphasizing their mutual connections. Graduates will be able to evaluate existing strategy and formulate new competitive strategy of development emphasizing its qualitative resources and significance of a wider environment of the economic subject.

Graduate’s skills (improved during the research activities based on individual assignments) enable them to interconnect theoretical and methodological knowledge with its practical use in conceptual managing and analytical work, i.e. mainly the ability to evaluate the present situation (resources and results) of economic performance and a competitive position on alternative levels, including the effectiveness of spent inputs, based on external and internal information resources.

The knowledge and skills gained during the studies help to find and use supplement information resources needed for graduates´ qualified decision-making, formulating of recommendations and implementing competitive strategy emphasizing its qualitative resources and specifications according to the selected economic level, evaluation of already implemented measures and recommending desired (vertical and horizontal) measures and instruments with the purpose to achieve political (institutional) support of the (quality based) competitiveness of economic subjects.

Job Opportunities of the Graduates

Job opportunities of the graduates are, thanks to a complex methodological and subject content of the study branch, very general in various types of institutions and professions.

The target group of the students are higher managers in all types of institutions in private and public sectors who are responsible for the formulation and implementation of a development conception and competitive strategy of an economic subject (company, branch of industry, region, country), or who participate in achieving, preserving and increasing its competitiveness. In smaller organizations they work in managerial positions thanks to their specialized qualifications acquired during their studies, in bigger organizations the graduates work as leading workers of independent analytical and conceptual departments and sections or their specialized parts.

The graduates can also apply for the positions of (leading) analysts and consultants of counselling centres focused on (complex) analyses of economic subjects performance at different levels and in different institutions; they are qualified to work as concultants who formulate, implement and evaluate efficiency of economic and political support of competitiveness in international, national, regional, and local institutions.

The graduates can also find good jobs in academic spheres as research and university staff. They can continue in improving their professional knowledge in Ph.D. studies. These graduates (or students in the final year of their studies) are offered scholarship positions in the Centre for Economic Studies of the VSEM.

Future careers of the graduates in specialized institutions are respected in the application segments of the relevant branch (i.e. in the subjects of analytical and strategic blocks), namely in the specific assignments of students´ papers. Such professional orientation of this type of studies focuses on employed people. On the other hand, the practical experience of the students themselves contribute to creating specifically oriented applied segments of their branch of studies.
