Examinations (EX) test the overall
knowledge and skills acquired in the corresponding study subject. Examinations are graded, the grade depending on the number of points (0 – 100) students score in the exam: 0 - 50 = 4 (fail) / 51 - 70 = 3 (sufficient)/ 71 - 90 = 2 (good) / 91 and above = 1 (excellent)
Exam sessions (Open Exam Session (OES), Restricted Exam Session (RES), Extra Exam Session (EES), Extra Final Exam Session (EFES), Final Exam Session (FES), Sports Scholarship Holder Exam (SSHE)) take place in corresponding time periods (7/14/21/28 days) throughout the calendar year. Their scheduling complies with the administrative regulations in force for the current academic year, please see: SIS VSEM/Study Administration Guide (PDF file).
Exam Test
-
The exams are taken during exam sessions, see SIS VSEM/Exam Sessions Schedule, and have a written test format.
-
To pass their exams, students are allowed a maximum of three attempts for every subject they have enrolled in.
-
If students fail an exam for the third time, (obtaining an F grade = 4) they have the possibility to apply for a so-called "Rector's exam" (the fourth attempt) via SIS VSEM/Study Forms. However, the rector is under no legal obligation to grant the student concerned an extra exam session.
-
If failing the "Rector's exam" (obtaining an F grade = 4), students who wish to continue their studies must attend again the subject they have failed. (If the subject concerned requires attendance). Rector's exam takes place every first Wednesday of the month.
- As for foreign language exams, students are also allowed a maximum of three attempts. If failing for the third time, students can apply for a so-called "Rector's exam" (the fourth attempt). If students fail the "Rector's exam", their studies are terminated and no refund is issued.
- Exam format is a multiple choice test with more correct answers possible for one question. Every generated test is unique, see Sample Exam Test (PDF file).
Exam Sessions Administration
- The registering for/canceling an exam session must be done by the Wednesday (11:59 p.m.) preceding the exam session.
- Once the registration for an exam is closed, the student is informed by e-mail of the exact time of the exam. If registering for the OES, the student can have the exam rescheduled by applying via SIS VSEM/Study form, even after the registration deadline.
- The student can take only the exam tests he/she has registered for via: SIS VSEM/Student's Exams/Exam Registration.
- Open Exam Sessions (OES) are intended for all study subjects and students are allowed to take an unlimited number of exam tests. (OES are divided according to the mode of studies/full time, part time/ and the study module.)
- Restricted Exam Sessions (RES) are intended for a given study subject and students are allowed to take only one test during the exam session they have registered for.(RES take place before a classes session and they are intended only for chosen study subjects)
-
Extraordinary Exam Session (EES/EFES) does not need to be taken during exam sessions. Students can take it on working days during opening hours of the Study Department or at the date specified in SIS VSEM. Students register for an EES via SIS VSEM/Student's Exams/Exam Registration/EES/EFES. A fee of 1,000 CZK is charged for every subject/EES test. (students are allowed to take an unlimited number of exam tests)
- During all exam sessions (OES, RES, EES/EFES, FES, SSHE) students are given exam tests designed exclusively for a current academic year, please see the introduction to study modules and subjects.
- In chosen study subjects/modules, students are permitted to use VSEM standardized aids (a calculator, a dictionary, etc.) necessary for the exam completion. The use of such items is further specified in the annotation of study modules and subjects.
Registration and the Process of Exam Sessions
- After registering and presenting his/her VSEM ID card, the student signs his/her name in the list of registered candidates and receives an exam test. (When taking OES, the student is also given a card stating the number of tests he/she has registered for.)
- Before registration and receiving exam test, on entering the exam room, students are permitted to take only their VSEM ID card. All personal effects (bags, handbags, pencil boxes, etc.) must be kept in storage space or left with the VSEM invigilators.(storage lockers have secure locks and are insured against theft)
- Pens and pencils (or standardized aids such as calculators, law-books etc.) are distributed to students for a given exam session. (students are not permitted to use their own aids)
- Students' registration takes place 30 minutes before (OES/RES) the exam, exam tests are given to students 10 minutes before the examination.
- The start and length of an exam session depends on the type of exam session (RES: 8-9:00 a.m.),or on the number of students registered (OES: part-time students K1/K2 from 9:00 a.m., OES full-time students P1/P2 from 2:00 p.m.)
- During exam sessions, students must respect rules and regulations valid for a given academic year, please see VSEM Internal Regulations.
Exam Grading and Evaluation of Exam Tests
- Exam test questions are evaluated individually. To obtain a full score for a multiple-choice question, students must tick all the correct options. (If they tick an incorrect option/s, the overall mark for the question concerned is 0 points)
- When grading the exam test, the examiner highlights the correct answer/s
- When students reach more than 80% attendance (in lectures and seminars), + 10 points are added to the subject's final grade.
- However, the +10 points will be allocated only if students score above 51 points in the relevant exam test. If earning 50 points or less in the exam test, no points will be added to the final grade.
- Students are informed of exam results within 7 days (EX), or after 14 days (FE) from the date an exam was taken. Results are posted in their SIS VSEM/ E- credit book, and automatically sent to their student e-mail
- The latest grades from the E-credit book are entered into the Grades Overview.
- The graded/corrected tests overview (RES/OES/FE) ordered according to exam date, type of exam session, study mode, study group, date results were posted into the SIS. The tests are available for inspection in the Study Department.
Exam Test Inspection and Review
- Tests are available for inspection in the Study Department within 30 days of the exam results being entered into the SIS VŠEM/E-index. To inspect their tests, students are required to submit an application via SIS VSEM/Study form/Test inspection. (Specifying study subject, exam date, date of test inspection)
- The test inspection application could be sent only after the exam grade was posted in the SIS VŠEM/E-index. The text inspection, followed by clarification of unclear questions is a necessary condition which must be met before the test is reviewed by the examiner.
- Students can apply for the exam result review (exam evaluation review) within 30 days of the exam results being entered into the SIS VŠEM/E-index. To have their test result reviewed, students must submit a test inspection application. After 30 days, the test results are considered valid and definitive.
- The test will be submitted to the examiner for review only after the student has provided comments concerning the unclear answer/question.
- The test review application shall contain specific questions/answers students want to review/clarify. If not fulfilling the conditions stated above, the application shall not be considered.
- During the test inspection/review, students are not permitted to take notes, make copies/photocopies; the same rules and sanctions apply as during the exam sessions.
- If the number of points the student is awarded during his/her exam review exceeds 10% of the total test score, the test is declared void. The exam session result is not entered into SIS and the student is offered a new exam session.
- The student shall inspect/review the test using the basic study literature for the relevant subject (which can be borrowed at the Study Department). The notice about the exam review result will be given to the student within 30 days of submitting/registering the application. (student's e-mail, student/applicant files)
